Tim Perkins was born and raised in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. As a youth, he, along with his seven siblings (5 brothers, 2 sisters) and father, helped on their grandfather’s (and later Uncle’s) farm in Westmore, Vermont. His chores included gathering sap from buckets, carrying firewood, and, of course, tasting syrup.
Since 1958 the North American Maple Syrup Producers Manual has served as a basic reference source for the production of pure maple products. This 2022 edition provides up-to-date, science-based information and recommendations relating to all aspects of the industry. The guidelines presented will help users ranging from the hobby and beginning producer level to those well-established in the industry. In addition, the information herein will benefit foresters, land managers, Extension and outreach personnel, and others aiming to provide assistance to those in the maple industry. Numerous photographs, tables, a glossary and hyperlinks to selected source materials are included.

This site presents ideas, current research, and new sources of information related to the history of the production and use of maple syrup and maple sugar in North America. The purpose of this site is not to be the definitive account tracing the history of maple syrup and sugar, or telling the maple story, although at times it will share old and new contributions to maple history. Rather, the focus is on the study and doing of maple syrup related history. The site will primarily feature topics and research of interest to the siteÕs creator, but on occassion the site may feature guest contributors.
